Kansas 3rd District Candidate Forum - My Review Posted by Kevin Barber — September 22, 2009 @ 11:26PM
Tonight there was a Candidates' Forum for the 3rd Congressional District of Kansas. Tonight candidates gathered and spoke against their incumbent rival, Dennis Moore.
First, thanks to the Hope for America Coalition ( www.hopeforamericacoalition.com ), CCAG, and the November Patriots for sponsoring and hosting the event.
Next, I'd like to move directly to a few thoughts about the candidates.
http://danielgilyeat.com/ - Daniel, thank you for your service. I can tell that you are a true patriot. I understand why you supported MCCAIN, but I disagree with it. MCCAIN was the democrat in the 2008 election. If you disagree, prove me wrong.
You were unable to name a single representative that you admired or agreed with (assuming it could be now or past). This is concerning, and even more concerning that you referenced "the guy who said Obama lied" and were not able to call him by name (Joe Wilson). I support slowing progress on agendas I disagree with, but you should only expect to be victorious if you know not only that you stand on the side of the constitution, but are also versed in the principles of that document, and through study of those principles you shape your stance on polices and the solutions that result. I suggest you read "The 5,000 Year Leap" as well as either "Revolution, a Manifesto" or "Liberty and Tyranny". It's okay to be against something, but at the same time I'd like to see you articulately *for* the right solutions.
http://www.patricialightner.com/ - Patricia, as I spoke with you after the event, I do not believe it was possible to vote for Sarah Palin in the last election by voting for MCCAIN. The fact is you voted for MCCAIN, a neoconservative at best, a man equally well labeled as a democrat. I encourage you to prove me wrong. This suggests that you supported Bush, the Patriot Act, the war in Iraq (without having declared war), and most if not all other deficit doubling neoconservative policies that brought us Obama.
You mentioned John Boehner as the representative you admire. Boehner voted for the Patriot Act (and then again in 2005 to extend it). Boehner voted for unbalanced budgets for years. Boehner voted for the Iraq war and never spoke against how it has been handled. Boehner not only voted FOR the bailout, but rallied republican votes for the bailout (bailout #1 that is). I'm sorry, but how are you a true conservative with John Boehner as your model? Yes he voted (and ranted) against Cap and Trade (I enjoyed his speach). However, you voted for MCCAIN, who ALSO supports a cap and trade policy. You talk the talk, but your vote for MCCAIN and admiration of Boehner scare the conservative'ness out of me!
http://www.jrforcongress.com/ - John, as I spoke with you after the event, I do not believe you can vote for John MCCAIN and be a true conservative. Please show me where MCCAIN is not a democrat. Condemning Moore (your opponent) earns you no points in my book. Pledging to support any republican nominee against Moore shows you're just another neoconservative 'playing the game'. How can you support a big spending Republican over a truly conservative libertarian or constitution party candidate, if that is what you truly believe? You dropped a lot of Republican names tonight (it's an election, not a clique or popularity contest), and your allegiance to your party is obvious. I understand why... you support the big bad elephant now hoping it will support you later. That's what brought us to where we're at today. Therefore, I do not see it as the solution.
But you are consistent, I'll grant you that. Your guy (Romney) sucks up to the Republican establishment too. After losing the nomination, all of the sudden he was *for* MCCAIN even though a month before they were slinging for each other so hard in ads that could have started a war if they were between the leaders of two countries. MCCAIN supported bailouts and stimulus. Romney not only supported Bush's bailout, but even leads the way in government interference in health care, he gets the award for the first republican to DO it (it failed miserably in just a few years, of course). John, in which way were you a conservative again? With the Romney care? With the tax cuts that increase the deficit? You like Thune right? He voted to bail out the banks. When did he rail against Bush's doubling of the deficit? I'm sorry, but I don't see how neoconservative policies are in line with the constitution that you will pledge to protect. How will your tax relief lead to a balanced budget? You failed to mention a single government program you'd cut (Acorn is not a government program, but it sure is *popular* to criticize Acorn right now). I fail to see how you're any sort of true conservative, and expect that if this election was John MCCAIN vs Dennis Moore, we are safe in knowing how you'd vote.
Guys, I'm still shopping for my candidate. I wrote Dennis Moore to let him know I'd be campaigning against him in the next election if he voted for Cap and Trade (which he did with great support and even a speech on the house floor)... so will the true conservative please stand up, please stand up!
Let me help you understand where Americans that stand against Moore are at:
